One Last Chance to Screen 59th Edition Award Winners
CHICAGO, Illinois (October 20, 2023) - The Chicago International Film Festival today announced the five films returning to screens as the 59th edition of North America’s longest-running competitive film festival’s Best of the Fest presentations. The films, which were honored with coveted Hugo Awards in their competitive categories, will screen Sunday October 22, at Festival venues including AMC NEWCITY 14 and the Chicago History Museum. Tickets for Best of the Fest screenings will go on sale Saturday October 21, 2023 at 10 a.m. local time.
Gold Hugo for Best Film and Silver Hugo for Best Screenplay winner EXPLANATION FOR EVERYTHING, Gábor Reisz’s multilayered coming-of-age story which digs deeply into human nature when faced with the daunting challenges of making choices, screens at 4:30 p.m.
Amr Gamal’s THE BURDENED, winner of the Gold Hugo in the New Directors Competition for its strong, beautiful portrait of everyday lives in Yemen’s second-largest city, Aden, screens at 2:30 p.m.
International Documentary Competition Gold Hugo winner, Tatiana Huezo’s poetic THE ECHO, plays at 11 a.m., with MONSTER, Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Gold Q-Hugo winner, showing at noon.
Silver Hugo winner for Best Director, Aki Kaurismäki’s FALLEN LEAVES, will screen at 7:45 p.m., and Silver Hugo winner for Best Ensemble Performance and Best Cinematography, LA CHIMERA from director Alice Rohrwacher, plays at 8 p.m.
The 59th Chicago International Film Festival runs October 11 - 22, 2023 with film screenings and programs presented at venues across the city including AMC NEWCITY 14, the Music Box Theatre, the Gene Siskel Film Center, the Chicago History Museum, the Hamilton Park Cultural Center in Englewood, Harrison Park in Pilsen, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
