Director Jeff Nichols Set to Receive Festival’s Artistic Achievement Award
Chicago, Illinois (September 13, 2023) – The Chicago International Film Festival today announced THE BIKERIDERS as the Closing Night presentation of its 59th edition, with writer-director Jeff Nichols receiving the Festival’s Artistic Achievement Award. Running October 11 - 22, 2023, the longest-running competitive film festival in North America unspools its selections and special presentations in venues across the city.
From writer-director Jeff Nichols, THE BIKERIDERS is a furious drama following the rise of a fictional 1960s Midwestern motorcycle club through the lives of its members. Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, THE BIKERIDERS immerses us in the look, feel, and sounds of the bare-knuckled, grease-covered subculture of ‘60s motorcycle riders. The cast, led by Jodie Comer (KILLING EVE, THE LAST DUEL), Austin Butler (ELVIS), and Tom Hardy (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) also includes Michael Shannon (also appearing at this year’s Festival with his directorial debut, ERIC LARUE), Mike Faist (WEST SIDE STORY), Boyd Holbrook (LOGAN), and Norman Reedus (THE WALKING DEAD).
Nichols will also be celebrated with an Artistic Achievement Award at the Festival for his outstanding body of work.
“From his feature debut SHOTGUN STORIES, which had its U.S. premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2007, to his stunning follow-ups TAKE SHELTER, MUD, MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, LOVING, and his latest achievement THE BIKERIDERS, Jeff Nichols’ work is remarkable for the stunning performances he elicits from his actors (including with frequent collaborator Michael Shannon) combined with a profound understanding of the human spirit and the often overlooked corners of American life,” said Chicago International Film Festival Artistic Director Mimi Plauché.
Previously announced highlights of the 59th Chicago International Film Festival include opening night presentation WE GROWN NOW from director Minhal Baig; festival Centerpiece film SALTBURN from director Emerald Fennell; David Fincher’s THE KILLER; Cannes Palme d’Or winner, Justine Triet’s ANATOMY OF A FALL; THE ZONE OF INTEREST, from writer-director Jonathan Glazer; and George C.
