Ogilvy Won Ad Industry Equivalent of EGOT for 2021 Festival Campaign
CHICAGO, Illinois – Today Cinema/Chicago, the presenter of the Chicago International Film Festival, unveiled this year’s Festival poster image, heralding the 58th edition of the longest-running competitive film festival in North America and created in collaboration with internationally-acclaimed advertising powerhouse Ogilvy. This year’s campaign, entitled “Life Subtitled,” builds on the award-winning success of 2021’s “Life, Scripted” campaign, and highlights the universal accessibility of cinema using that classic filmmaking staple: the subtitle.
“‘Life Subtitled’ demonstrates that an international film festival isn’t as ‘foreign’ as some might think,” said Gabe Usadel, Executive Design Director at Ogilvy. “Since the beginning of film, subtitles have helped break down barriers. They transcend language and abilities, reflect universal struggles and triumphs, and unite movie-goers. This year we bring the romance, intrigue, and drama of film to life by giving Chicago and Chicagoans their very own subtitles.”
“The Chicago International Film Festival exists to recognize, honor, and inspire creativity,” said Cinema/Chicago Managing Director Vivian Teng. “Ogilvy has been named the most creative ad agency in the world, and our collaboration brings together both history-making creative organizations for the fourth year in 2022.”
Launching in September 2022, the comprehensive campaign features bus shelters, wild postings, digital and social media elements, and a trailer. In the days leading up to the Festival, captions will be placed around the city and subtitled images of people around Chicago will be shared on social media using the hashtag #LifeSubtitled as the Festival brings Chicago fully into the yearly celebration of cinema.
The Chicago International Film Festival’s 2021 collaboration with Ogilvy, entitled “Life, Scripted,” achieved the ad industry equivalent of the elusive EGOT, the rare achievement of an individual winning an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. “Life, Scripted” featured a series of contextual out-of-home displays and experiences that appeared across Chicago and presented everyday experiences of average people as script pages. The campaign earned recognition from award shows including The One Show (the world's most prestigious award show in advertising, design, and digital marketing), The Clio Awards (recognizing excellence in advertising), D&AD (honoring creative excellence in design and advertising), and the coveted Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity which was inspired by the Cannes International Film Festival and celebrates the creative communications industry.
The 58th Chicago International Film Festival selections and presentation schedule will be announced on September 19, 2022.
