Juliette Binoche, Benoît Magimel Star in Sumptuous Romantic Drama In Chicago Theaters February 14, 2024
New York, NY (January 23, 2024) – IFC Films today announced THE TASTE OF THINGS, starring Juliette Binoche and her real-life ex Benoît Magimel, and directed by Anh Hung Tran, will open in Chicago-area theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024. The film, which played to sold-out audiences at the 59th Chicago International Film Festival, was France’s International Feature Film Official Selection for the Academy Awards®.
Juliette Binoche stars alongside her real-life ex Benoît Magimel in this sumptuous romantic drama, about a famed gourmet (Magimel) in 1880s France whose twenty-year relationship with his private chef (Binoche) has mellowed into a soulmate bond. He desperately wants to marry her. She’s skeptical, preferring their current arrangement to a conventional partnership. The thing that keeps them together is their obsession with food: preparing it, eating it, talking about it. So what better way for him to convince her to settle down than to cook her a meal?
Director Anh Hung Tran (The Scent of Green Papaya) combines culinary and sensual delight in the tradition of the best cinematic “food porn,” opening with a 40-minute cooking sequence that’s as rich and mouthwatering as a pat of butter in a sizzling hot pan.
THE TASTE OF THINGS is directed by Anh Hung Tran and written by Marcel Rouff and Anh Hung Tran. The film stars Juliette Binoche, Benoît Magimel, and Emmanuel Saliger. Jonathan Ricquebourg is director of photography, Mario Battistel is editor. The film is produced by Oliver Delbosc, with Cédric Iland and Bastien Sirodot co-producing. THE TASTE OF THINGS is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for some sensuality, partial nudity, and smoking, and has a running time of approximately 145 minutes. THE TASTE OF THINGS opens February 14, 2024 in Chicago theaters.
